...and we're back!

So, for those of you who don't know, Kayak Church has been around, in some form, for the past 2 years.  However, for the past 9 months, I have sorta let things slide.  I went through a tough patch during the closing of the traditional church i was pastoring.  Some wise people who counsel me advised I take some time off from ministry, and so I did.  Thank you guys!  It felt good.

But now, I feel it is time to 'get back in the saddle'.  You see, for me Kayak Church has always been very important.  It has been my way to meet people and show them that just because someone follows after Jesus, doesn't mean he or she looks like what our experience tells us Christians look like.

Just because you follow after Jesus doesn't mean you should be perfect, but it does mean you should try to be loving.  In fact, Jesus tells us that is the most important quality.  Love.  Not being right, not being 'perfect', not being republican, not being straight, not any of the things we normally associate with church and christians, but having love.

I just finished reading a book last night, Blue Like Jazz.  The author, at the end, seemed to start taking me all kinds of weird places, but then he tied it up nicely that our philosophy of life needs to include 1) Being able to be loved by God, 2) being able to love others, and 3) being able to be loved by others.  And I loved that the author is a Portlander and talks about Northwest life.

I have been reading a lot this year, and it has really helped me focus my thoughts and philosophy of what is good in life.

Well, hopefully I will be better about updating the site frequently.  Let me know things you would like to see.  I will probably put a blog up soon.  I can easily put a forum page up, too, if you want to discuss stuff.
